Whipped body butter is luxurious any time of year. The butters and oils found in these types of recipes help restore damaged skin and heal dry, cracked areas. While you can buy these products at the store, they couldn’t be simpler to make at home, and they also make great homemade gifts. As a bonus, you can custom the scent by adding your favorite essential oils.

Combine the shea butter, cocoa butter, coconut or babassu oil, and rosehip seed oil to the top of a double boiler. Gently heat and stir until the butters liquefy. Remove from the heat and set aside to allow the mixture to partially cool. To speed up this process, you can refrigerate the mixture. When the mixture is just beginning to solidify, whip it with a handheld or stand mixer until fluffy. Add the vitamin E oil and spearmint essential oil, and whip together. Add the cocoa absolute, and whip again to thoroughly blend and reach stiff peaks. Once stiff peaks have formed, spoon the butter into jars or tins.

In a double boiler, melt the shea butter, coconut oil, and vitamin E oil. Transfer to an electric mixer, and allow it to partially solidify, not fully harden. Add the arrowroot powder and rose and patchouli essential oils. Mix on high for five to seven minutes, or until the body butter becomes fluffy. Store in an 8-ounce jar.

I love the recipe for Mint Chocolate Body Butter. I will be changing the scent to lilac instead. Can’t wait to make for family, friends, and me.
