During springtime, my hands take a beating. The cold, dry air and occasional Santa Ana winds in Southern California both contribute to my skin’s inability to retain moisture. Over the years, I have tried numerous hand lotions and creams to prevent any cracks and add hydration. My latest find — a thick ginger and lime hand lotion — came last year after I was experiencing the most extreme dry hands I have ever encountered.

It’s that time of year again: springtime gardening! Each year, I look forward to deciding which varieties to plant and where, watering and fostering their growth, and watching for fruit and vegetables to form. This year, my toddler has been of much help, and it’s a thrill to watch her explore nature and get her hands dirty. With gardening and warmer temperatures comes bothersome insects.
