I am sensitive to smells and prone to headaches, both tension and migraines. Since my headaches are easily triggered by scents, I have to be careful with my bath and body products — no strong floral candles or scented lotions for me. There’s nothing like a bathtub soak to reduce stress and help ease tension in my body, so I decided to make my own bath salts without a crazy scent. The dried chamomile flowers and rosebuds with the Epsom salt provide the right amount of sensory stimulation without overpowering it. This recipe couldn’t be easier to make and only takes a few ingredients, yet it is packed with skin-care benefits. If you’re sensitive to smells like I am, I hope you enjoy this simple DIY and treat yourself to an at-home spa treatment.
⅛ cup dried chamomile flowers
⅛ cup dried rosebuds
Food processor/Coffee grinder (optional)
½ cup Epsom salt
Bowl: small
Glass test tubes: (3)
Muslin bag (optional)
For less mess in the bathtub, place the dried chamomile flowers and rosebuds in a food processor or coffee grinder, and pulse for a few seconds if desired. Mix the flowers and the Epsom salt in a small bowl. Pour the mixture into the glass test tubes. To use, pour the salts directly into the bathwater, or add them to a muslin bag and drop into the bathwater to reduce the mess. Soak for 10–20 minutes. Get out slowly and make sure to drink a glass of water.
